Photo Printing Wizard

I wanted to take a printout of one picture from a folder containing six pictures. So I right clicked on a picture, selected print from the menu and photo printing wizard launched. All the pictures of the folder were shown and that particular picture was checked as selected (as shown in the figure). It’s a good idea to show all the pictures of the folder in the photo printing wizard as a user has the option from the wizard to print other pictures of the folder. But I think the only thing missing was the filename below the thumbnail view of each picture. This would be great help so that a user could easily locate the exact file. The next time I tried to print multiple pictures; I saw the print wizard window with the selected pictures rather than all the pictures of that folder.
Hmmm…now that’s what I call “Inconsistency”!!

Interesting observation. My first thought was "yes, thats inconsistent behaviour".

On second thought, for why this "inconsistency" might have been "included" (certainly it cannot be an ignorance case), i think i get a different picture. Let me try to explain my thoughts:

On single/multi selection
Scenario 1: One picture selection
-> User selects 1 picture and tries to print.
-> User is shown with the Photo printing wizard.
-> Now, by showing only 1 picture, the User's flexibility to select more picture on the run is restricted.
-> At same time if user is shown all pictures with "Check boxes" and the picture in question being marked for printing, it provides good flexibility to user. User can either continue printing or modify the selection on the run.

Scenario 2: Multiple picture selection
-> User selects 4-5 picture and tries to print.
-> Lets say user is shown with the Photo printing wizard with all pictures in it(as with 1 pic selection behaviour)
-> The issue with showing all pictures in this case is more from user perspective. If the number of pictures selected is more than what can be shown in the default view of the printing wizard, then it may confuse the user (are the snaps selected as per my selection choice??). This gets aggravated more due to the file names not being present.

Not sure if i could project my thoughts, if not, then we can have a small discussion on this.

For the question of file name being shown, i think that adds tremendous value. But only one thing which might have to be taken care additionally in this case is:
-> When showing file names, the extension also needs to be shown (as you may have same file names with diff extensions - jpg, gif, png etc).

I have a comment to Scenario 1:

A customer of us have scanned several production sheets and blueprints and stored them as TIF images in folders. There are houndreds of thousands of them, often more than 3000 in each folder.

When the user wants to print ONE of those production sheets, the Photo and fax viewer will hang for about 2 minutes before he is able to do the print. This functionality is annoying to the user. I am looking for a solution to this, but probably we have to use another photo ediotor.
